Endoscopy and Biopsy
• A definitive diagnosis requires microscopic examination of part or all of the involved ovary or any other
suspicious abdominal mass. Cystic ovarian tumors that are less than 6 cm (2¬Ω in.) in diameter occurring in a
premenopausal woman are usually benign cysts.
Surgical evaluation should be strongly considered for any mass in a postmenopausal woman, masses that are
larger than 6 cm (2¬Ω in.) in diameter, masses persisting longer than one menstrual cycle and masses that are
suspicious on imaging of the pelvis.
